Over the summer, fashion-loving Zoey Webber gets the best news ever: Her middle school is getting rid of uniforms! There’s just one problem. Zoey has sketchbooks full of fashion designs, but nothing to wear! So with a little help from her best friends Kate and Priti, she learns to make her own clothes. She even begins to post her fashion design sketches online in a blog. That’s how the Sew Zoey blog begins, and soon it becomes much more.
Zoey’s quirky style makes her a bit of a misfit at middle school, but her Sew Zoey blog quickly gains a dedicated following. Real fashion designers start to read it! Yet even as her blog takes off, Zoey still has to deal with homework, crushes, and P.E. class. And when the principal asks her to design a dress for the school’s fashion-show fund-raiser, Zoey can’t wait to start sewing! But what will happen when her two worlds collide?
Honestly, this book is so cute. I just can’t find another word for it. Just the way this story is written and how Zoey does all her fashions, I thought this was a really fun, quick read.
I’m a t-shirt, jeans, jacket, sneakers person just about year-round. So I’m not super big into the fashion scheme of things. It was still amusing for me though, to read about Zoey and her endeavors into the fashion world. It was pretty cool how she had her blog and was able to do so much with it, the only thing is–blogs don’t gather themselves together that quickly.
As a person who manages and runs six blogs, I understand that after a few posts, if your material is good–a few followers come streaming in. It goes pretty well after that. Things build steadily but slowly. You hit highs and lows. I just didn’t think that Zoey’s blog and the sheer growth of it all, especially because there are so many fashion blogs out there already, was super realistic.
I loved Zoey’s little journey and how everything turned out. I thought this book was really creative and has a lot of potential as a series. 4.5 stars.
